Classes of Membership

 

Ordinary Member (MACIA) Requirements:

1. Hold recognized accounting qualifications and three years of internal audit or internal control experience

(Recognized institutions include HKICPA and these overseas organizations)

  • ICAS
  • CA ANZ
  • ICAZ
  • NZICA
  • CAI
  • CPA Australia
  • CPA Canada
  • SAICA

OR

2. Hold Affiliate membership with three years of internal audit or internal control experience

 

 

Affiliate Member (AACIA) Requirements:

1. Hold relevant diploma or higher from recognized university / college, and

2. Interest in internal auditing
Upgrade path: Can apply for Ordinary Membership after three years of internal audit / control experience

 

 

Student Member Requirements:

1. Currently enrolled in relevant diploma or higher program at recognized university / college, and

2. Interest in internal auditing
Upgrade path: Can apply for Affiliate Membership upon completing relevant diploma

 
 
Professional Qualification
 
Certified Chinese Internal Auditor (CCIA) Requirements:

1. Hold a practising certificate from a recognized professional accounting association and an internationally recognized CPA practising certificate as a certified public accountant, and possess three years of internal or external audit work experience.

2. Hold a recognized CPA qualification in Hong Kong without a practising certificate, but with five years of experience in internal and external audits, as well as in corporate governance, financial management, or financial services governance.

3. Enrollment in and successful completion of courses and examinations offered by the ACIA or accredited institutions* recognized by relevant internal audit or accounting professional associations (i.e., Certified Chinese Internal Auditor), and possession of three years of professional experience in internal and external auditing.

4. Five years of work experience in internal audit, external audit, financial services, securities industry, banking services, company secretary, legal, or related consulting industries; and successfully passed an internal audit enhancement course organized by the ACIA or accredited institutions.

5. A person that has made an essential contribution to the development of the internal audit or external audit profession in Hong Kong can be given the professional qualification following the Council approval.

 

Certified Internal Audit Practitioner (CIAP) Requirements:

1. Enrollment in and successful completion of courses and examinations offered by the ACIA or accredited institutions* recognized by relevant Certified Internal Audit Practitioner.

 

Remarks: *The ACIA reserves the right of final interpretation for relevant accredited institutions or courses.
